I really liked the social with Iona. I had lots of fun dancing and talking with girls. It was a very inclusive event. The Year 12 girls that MCed this event were really nice and they brought me up on stage. I danced and talked with a girl called Charlie all night. There was lots of great dancing from everyone such as Michael Scott, Samuel Johnston and Jordan McGrath. The food and drink were great and the pies were really good. At the start of the night, all the boys were on one side and all the girls were on the other. Then the Year 12 girls put on the Macarena and I couldn’t help myself. I went to an empty space and started to dance. Then all of the boys started chanting my name going “Westy, Westy, West!” While I was doing my dance the Year 12 girls got me to come onto the stage and do the Macarena with a girl. Everyone was cheering and it was a really fun environment. I really enjoyed this social and I would go to another if I could.
On Friday the 25th, the Year 8 boys went down to Iona for our social. The event was fun, from the endless dancing and music to getting to know some of the girls at Iona. The event began at roughly 7 pm In your expected way. On one side of the room was all the boys and on the other was the girls. The nerves were apparent for close to half the night, but with what seemed to be courage from the boys but was actually a nudge from the Senior Iona students and the staff, the two largely separated groups began to merge. Slowly over the night, more and more boys and girls began to talk and by the last half an hour of the social, almost all students from both Iona and Aquinas were in small groups chatting away. Special mention to Harry West for his fearless attitude during the night. Not only did Harry dance his heart out for the entire social, but he also got up on stage numerous times to boogie down for the rest of the crowd. Overall, the nerves were apparent but the boys and girls through the help of teachers really got a lot out of the night and I'm sure most of the boys would’ve loved to stay just that little bit longer.
