Last Saturday morning when most of Perth was swimming to Rottnest or watching from a boat, eight dedicated students endeavoured to make Port Beach a cleaner place for people to visit. With an early 7am start, the students were keen to set out along the beach, only to find it was actually very clean and free from rubbish and debris. We then made our way behind the first set of sand dunes to where some people choose to sit and watch the sunset. This is where we found most of our rubbish including beer bottles, cruisers, cigarettes and the mandatory masks!! The excitement started when we returned to the car park to dump the rubbish we had found in a skip bin. While cleaning up the car park, one student found a $50 note. Seeing most people don’t use cash any, more this was a great find. The students all of a sudden became extremely dedicated to seek and find every small bit of rubbish they could.
Harrison Ganza was all smiles at the end of the day. Perth Otero, William Hatton, Ethan and Aiden Chan and Trey Westlake were all keen to offer advice on what he should do with the money.
I am sure that the next beach clean-up day will be a sell-out!
