Last Tuesday, White Ribbon Australia attended Aquinas College to run a discussion forum with a panel about the topics of preventing domestic violence, building respectful relationships, and examining healthy masculinity. The Panel consisted of Yasemin Cowley-Cooper, Karen Giblett, Michael Hussey, and MC Clayton Shaw. It was affirming to hear the boys answer questions drawing on the information they had been delivered throughout their Veritas Lessons. This is what Dominic Lomen and Blake Topham thought of the event:

“White Ribbon Australia came to Aquinas College to educate students on the critical issues of gender equality and violence prevention. White Ribbon helped us further understand the values of respect, equality, and empathy. They emphasised the importance of treating all individuals, regardless of their gender, with respect and fairness. We were taught to recognise the signs of unhealthy or abusive relationships and to prioritise clear communication. White Ribbon's presentation also encouraged us to become active bystanders, intervening when we witness or suspect abusive behaviour, and to challenge traditional stereotypes of masculinity in favour of more inclusive and respectful perspectives.

White Ribbon Australia's engagement with Aquinas College fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility for gender equality and violence prevention. By instilling these values and teaching students to speak out against violence, White Ribbon helps us to create a safer and more equal society, working towards the overarching goal of eliminating violence against women and promoting healthy, respectful relationships within society.”

“White Ribbon Australia came and gave a talk to all the boys in Year 9. The talk centred on the importance of healthy relationships plus reasons and statistics about domestic violence. Covering this topic provided me with a view I hadn't had before. It was quite shocking to hear the number of deaths resulting from domestic violence. Overall, I think that this talk was very informative and helpful for me and other students to learn.”
